Our NODA Award for Princess Ida

Our production of PRINCESS IDA in March 2016 is a distant memory for most of us , so it was quite a surprise, but nonetheless a pleasant one, to be informed late in June that we had been awarded the South East Region Runner Up Accolade of Excellence in the Gilbert & Sullivan classification for 2016.

So it was that on 2nd July, Ann & Bob Cousins travelled down to Barnham Community Hall, near Bognor Regis, to represent the Savoy Singers at the NODA South East AGM and Awards Ceremony, where Ann was duly presented with the Accolade Certificate from the Regional Councillor, Kay Rowan. Also attending this meeting was the National Operatic & Dramatic Association National President, Michael Hastilow.

There are over 200 Societies in the South East Region, covering Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Kent, many of whom perform a Gilbert & Sullivan work each year, so to receive this award is quite a feather in the cap for our Society. Credit must be given to our Musical Director, Diana Vivian, and to our Stage Director, Duncan Hamilton, whose novel idea it was to introduce several Pantomime characters into the cast thus giving our PRINCESS IDA that little EXTRA.
